An Enrolled Agent is an individual who passes a three part exam on tax preparation, tax laws and ethics administered by an outside testing source.
They all know how the tax laws and regulations change each year. Up to now anyone could hang up a sign and say they are tax preparers without regulation or even knowledge. The only people who were regulated were enrolled agents (by the IRS), CPAs and attorneys (by their individual states).
