- In the fall of 2001, DAK Americas was created as a new company with three main business units, including: Fibers, Monomers, and Resins. DAK Americas is wholly owned and operated as a subsidiary of Alpek, the petrochemicals and synthetic fibers business group of Alfa S.A.B. de C.V., one of Mexico's largest corporations. At its creation, DAK Americas acquired several manufacturing facilities in the United States from E.I. Du Pont de Nemours. Together with Alfa, S.A.B. de C.V. both companies at that time had over a 25 year history of working together in Mexico, sharing technology, assets, and experiences in a variety of fiber and chemical related industries. In 2003. DAK Americas expanded its PET Resins capability with the construction of a new facility near Charleston, South Carolina, USA and in mid 2007 again increased its PET Resin manufacturing capabilities with the construction of a new state-of-the-art PET facility near Wilmington, North Carolina, USA. By the close of 2007, DAK Americas had again increased its PET manufacturing capabilities and its abilities to supply PET Resin across the Americas with an acquisition of PET businesses and manufacturing facilities in Cosoleacaque, Mexico and Zarate, Argentina from Eastman Chemical.
